A home fit for the Queen

The History

The grand Harefield Place estate, in Ickenham, west London, was once owned by the Newdigate family, who built an extravagant Tudor manor on the site.

In 1602, Harefield Place was visited by none other than Queen Elizabeth I, as part of one of her ‘royal progress’ tours and she was believed to have watched a Shakespeare play within the grounds!

Sir Roger Newdigate was a member of the family who, for almost 440 years, were the Lords of Harefield Manor, a baronetcy created by King Henry VI.

The last member of the Newdigate family to live at Harefield Place was Charles (1816-1887), who added a lake and walled kitchen garden.

In 1935, the house ceased being a private home and became the Harefield Country Hospital, a maternity hospital. In 1959, it sold a parcel of land, which is now the adjacent Harefield Place Golf Club. The hospital was closed in 1965 and Harefield Place remained vacant until 1981, when it was converted into offices and served as the headquarters of Blockbuster Video until 2014.

The Restoration

The Grade II-listed house and more than eight acres of gardens have since been restored by leading Buckinghamshire housebuilder Manorgrove Homes, in association with Jade Development Enterprises, HAP Architects and Concept Interiors. The Georgian manor house, has now been transformed into a gated development of 25 converted and newly built two and three-bedroom luxury apartments.

The exclusive development is approached via a sweeping driveway. Harefield Place offers a rare mix of both classic and contemporary apartments. The luxury development includes a conversion, with nine spectacular homes situated in the original Georgian Mansion, in addition to 16 stunning contemporary, newly built apartments set alongside.

The Classic Collection is steeped in the history and grandeur of the original Georgian Mansion. These apartments retain many period features while providing generous living space.

The Contemporary Collection has been built to compliment the Georgian Mansion, with high ceilings and large windows, while offering more modern open-plan living spaces.

Harefield Place is situated in Ickenham, just off The Drive – one of the most desirable private roads in Middlesex. Positioned alongside the Colne Valley Regional Park, many of the apartments here boast spectacular views out across the valley, while all the homes offer access to the development’s own private grounds and facilities. Residents here can access their own private indoor pool and separate hot tub as well as a state of the art gymnasium and outdoor tennis court.

The development includes an on-site Estate Manager who ensure that Harefield Place is maintained to the highest level. There is allocated parking, in addition to individual store rooms for each property. The homes enjoy their own private outside space ranging from large terraces and balconies to roof terraces.

The homes are well connected by both road and rail. The M40, M25 and M4 are all easily accessible and Stockley Park, Uxbridge Business Park and Heathrow Airport, are within a 15-minute drive of the development. Ickenham also benefits from being within close proximity to Ickenham, Hillingdon and Ruislip tube stations (on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines), and West Ruislip (central line) – all in Zone 6.
